Redact a PDF — black out content for good
Draw black boxes over anything sensitive. At export, censored pages are converted to images, so the hidden content is permanently removed — not just covered up.
Files auto-delete after 2 hours · No signup · No AI training
Rearrange, delete, rotate, crop and censor pages — from one or many PDFs into one file.
Draw a rectangle on the page. Drag to move it, use the handles to resize.
How it works
- Drop your PDF and open the page you want to redact.
- Draw black boxes over the text or images to censor.
- Export — censored pages are flattened and the hidden content is gone.
Frequently asked questions
Is this real redaction or just a black rectangle?
Real redaction. Many tools draw a box on top of the text, which can still be selected, copied, or extracted underneath. pdfmix converts censored pages to images at export, so the covered content no longer exists in the file.
Is there a trade-off?
Yes, one. Because censored pages become images, their text is no longer selectable or searchable. Pages without censored areas are not affected.
Can someone recover the redacted text?
No. The text is not hidden — it is removed. It cannot be selected, copied, or restored from the exported file.
I am redacting because the document is sensitive. Can I trust you with it?
That is exactly what pdfmix is built for. Your file is TLS-encrypted in transit, deleted automatically after 2 hours, and removable at once with Delete now. We never use uploads to train AI, and there is no account tying the file to you.
Can I redact several areas or pages?
Yes. Draw as many boxes on as many pages as you need, then export once.
